I write this moments before eating stew.
My wonderful, wonderful wife has made stew. Soon it’ll be stew time.
There’s stuff I want to say here about society and poverty and hunger, about the pain of deprivation. I have made several attempts at this sentence but I keep faltering. I’m wrapped up in stew and how much I’m looking forward to this stew.
That’s the thing about eating – it gets to us.
Now in this moment of anticipation, of hunger I think of those for whom there is no stew to get wrapped up in, to distract them. In this country far, far too many people are hungry. In this union of countries, far, far too many people are hungry. In this world too. There’s enough food and it doesn’t get to where it needs to go.
We need to cook more, make more, write more, share more, change more. And more. Much more.
Because there is more out there.
There is more than enough.
We can do more.
Let’s do more of more.
